1. Learning the 42 Letter Sounds

2. Blending (Reading Words)

  • Combining individual sounds to read words.
  • Example: c-a-t → cat, sh-i-p → ship.

3. Segmenting (Spelling Words)

  • Breaking down words into sounds for spelling.
  • Example: dog → d-o-g, fish → f-i-sh.

4. Tricky Words (Common Irregular Words)

Words that don’t follow regular phonics rules, e.g., the, he, she, was, said, you, are, come, some, they, there, here.

5. Alternative Spellings & Sounds

  • Learning different spellings for the same sounds.
  • Example:
    • ai → rain, ay → play, a-e → cake
    • ee → tree, ea → seat, e-e → theme

6. Handwriting Skills

  • Proper letter formation and cursive writing practice.

7. Spelling Rules & Patterns

  • Short and long vowel sounds (e.g., hop → hope).

  • Developing fluency by reading simple sentences and stories.
